Rosa Maria Colon-Rodriguez
Age 86 of Staten Island, NY passed away Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Richmond University Medical Center in Staten Island, NY. She was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico 2nd youngest of 13 children to Aniseto & Andrea Colon of Puerto Rico where she graduated from Humacao Community College with a degree in nursing and played semi-professional baseball.

Rosa relocated to Manhattan, NY in 1954 where she worked as a nurse. She married Nicholas Rodriguez (deceased)of Havana Cuba in 1955. In late 1962 she and her family relocated to Brooklyn, NY where
she worked as a secretary for the Board of Education.
Mother of 6 children, Eldest daughter, Olga (deceased) Survived by Daughters Elba, Rosa, Maritza, Sons Nizardo and Arnaldo, and grandchildren whom she raised, Serena, Anthony, Christopher, Michael & Jesus Adam. In totality she is survived by 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

During her life, she had a passion for God, baseball and fishing which she shared with not only her own children but all children around her. She would gather all the neighborhood children along with hers, create teams that she coached and take them on outings to Prospect Park and the Museum of Natural History. She taught her children how to fish, play baseball-softball catch lightning bugs and feed squirrels. She made certain that all her children knew there was a God and that they were not alone. Her love of sports, animals, and cooking will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 17th and Tuesday, June 18th from 3:00pm till 8:00pm at La Rosas Funeral home. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 19th 10:00am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help RC Church at 526 59th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11220 INTERMENT Wednesday, June 19th 11:45am Rosehill Cemetery 792 E Edgar Road, Linden, NJ 07036
